Turbine continues with their ongoing Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria teasers through this week’s newest batch of official screenshots. This time we get to see some great shots from The Waterworks area, located in the southwestern-most region of the Mines of Moria. Lord of the Rings Online has a unique and popular roleplaying addition to the game with its music system. Battling other players in Lord of the Rings Online’s Ettenmoors will become a bit more balanced (read: challenging), once Mines of Moria releases next month. According to a recent dev diary, the devs have been aware of some issues with the PvP zone since the game launched, and have performed a complete revamp just in time for Moria.

Changes include:

• More fortifications for the main monster-player and player bases to prevent camping the exits (we’re talking to you, Burglars and Wargs)
• Pathing and structural changes to increase the challenge within camps and keeps
• The introduction of artifacts and flags
• Controllable bridges
• The removal of hot points
• A proper place for the five outposts throughout the map, used for smaller skirmishes

Turbine has put together an immensely deep look into the Legendary Item system coming in the Mines of Moria expansion. If you ever had any questions about, well about nearly anything regarding how the whole thing works, you should find your answers now. Our impressions are that it’s certainly a cool and interesting attempt at enabling players to craft the weapon of their choice over a period of time, similarly to how you would an actual character. That being said, our only beef with the system is that it doesn’t seem to support any kind of visual customization options. Everyone loves to personalize their stuff, so it seems likes a no-brainer. Hopefully, in time, we may see something of this nature.

For now though, we’re happy that Turbine is going the distance to try something new and possibly very evolutionary within the genre. The developer diary states that they’ll be making any required adjustments in the future, too. So this is something of a work in progress in that sense.

Turbine has just released yet another set of screenshots and a video depicting a new area of Lord of the Rings Online’s new upcoming expansion Mines of Moria. In this set, we get treated to the visuals of Durin’s Way, in the northern part of the underground kingdom.

This area is unique as it contains much of the richest history from the height of Dwarven rule throughout Khazad-dum. You can see the ruins of Durin’s garden areas since it was overrun by the Orcs. There’s also some footage of the male and female Morroval, and the new underground goat-like mount made specifically for the mines. In preparation for Lord of the Rings Online’s upcoming expansion on November 18th, Turbine has announced a second bonus weekend for current and former players from October 30th through November 3rd. This weekend mirrors a previous event at the beginning of October which offered the same incentives. For former players, you’re invited to come back to Middle-earth to experience the loads of new content an prepare yourself for Mines of Moria.
